Once you’ve accepted that you’re now part of a long distance relationship it’s time to make some adjustments to how you view dating because after all you need to accomplish all the same dating “tasks” at a distance that you can normally take care of much closer to home.
What I want to share with you today are some ideas for you to use in your long distance relationship to help keep it fresh and interesting for both of you. Remember that apathy and indifference are what cause most relationships of this type to fail, and not the actual distance between you at all.
So here’s a quick list of ideas I think you might find very useful at least once during your distance relationship.
5 Long Distance Relationship Ideas
Thanks to broadband Internet connections video conferencing/telepresence is not only possible but is used by a huge number of distance daters. What you could do is set up a weekly meal that you share with each other just using your laptops and webcams – a very basic long distance virtual date. At least that way you’re still involved in each other’s daily life in a real way, although obviously it might take some getting used to at first.
Again thanks to the wonders of the Internet everyone and their aunt, uncle and dog has a blog these days. If you don’t know what a blog is it’s basically an online journal that you share with the world, and would be a fun project for you to update with your boyfriend or girlfriend. You could just use it to tell other people about your long distance relationship or just to update each other on what you’re doing every day. Don’t worry if you’re not a very technically minded person because there’s plenty of free blog platforms out there which only take a few minutes to get started with.
The Care Package
If you’re a Call of Duty fan then you’ll already get this reference, but if not a care package is basically a bundle of stuff that you give to somebody when they’re away from home, or in the case of Call of Duty it’s a bundle of weapons and gameplay upgrades. But we’re getting off the point there. The basic idea here is that you put together one of these care packages which you then mail/courier to your beloved once per month or per week – whatever your budget allows for. Fill it with their favorite cookies, a picture of you, something with your perfume/aftershave on it, a cute t-shirt or babydoll or pretty much anything else you think will put a smile on the face of that person you love so much.
A wise man once said that if you take a person home and they don’t read books then don’t sleep with them and I’d have to agree. If you’re a reader (and if not then now is your time to start) then you can pick a book that you both love and then read it together. Now reading it “together” can be done in a couple of different ways. The first is that you both read a chapter each night and then swap notes on it, but thanks to the wonders of Skype/GoogleTalk/Viber you could also take turns reading to each other just before bedtime each day. You’ll get to share something you both love and the last thing you’ll hear before you doze off that night is the voice of the man or woman you love.
